Mississippi HB389 amends Section 37-15-30 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to require parents or legal guardians to provide a current, valid Mississippi automobile registration as proof of residence when enrolling students in school. If the parent or legal guardian does not own a motor vehicle, they must submit a signed affidavit attesting to this fact and affirming the student's actual residence. The school district may also require additional documentation to verify residency. This act takes effect from July 1, 2026.
