Mississippi Joint Municipal Law Enforcement Act allows two or more municipalities in a county to establish a joint police department. The governing authorities of the municipalities must determine it is in the best interests of the municipalities to create such a department. The joint department will be governed by a board composed of the mayor from each municipality and the sheriff of the county. Each participating municipality will pay a proportionate amount of funds based on its population to cover the operating costs of the joint department.
