The bill establishes a four-year Professional School Counselors Pilot Program in Mississippi school districts with high incidences of teen pregnancy and school violence. The State Department of Education, State Department of Health, and Mississippi Department of Human Services will select three districts for the program. Professional school counselors will provide comprehensive counseling services, including academic and personal/social counseling, crisis intervention, and educational and career counseling. The program prohibits counseling that suggests abortion as a method to prevent birth.
