Mississippi HB1737 amends Section 47-5-151 of the Mississippi Code to require that when an autopsy is performed on a deceased state inmate, a copy of the autopsy report must be provided to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and the Chairpersons of the House and Senate Corrections Committees. The superintendent or person in charge of the prisoner must notify the county medical examiner of the death. If the remains are not claimed for burial within 48 hours, they may be delivered to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for medical research or anatomical study.
