Mississippi HB1709 amends the Mississippi Code to allow children of active military personnel assigned to a Mississippi base to receive dyslexia or speech-language therapy scholarships. These scholarships enable parents or guardians to enroll their children in nonpublic schools specializing in dyslexia or speech-language therapy, even if the child attended an out-of-state school the previous year. The bill also requires the Department of Education to notify the district of the parent's or legal guardian's intent upon receipt of the scholarship request.
