Mississippi HB1320 amends the Mississippi Code to give local school boards discretionary authority to provide transportation for students living within one mile of their assigned school if walking conditions present a significant safety risk. Conditions that may warrant this include lack of sidewalks, crossing major roads, areas with crime or human trafficking, and other hazards. No additional funds will be allocated for this purpose, and these students will not be included in transportation reports. The act takes effect July 1, 2026.
