Mississippi HB1201 would allow school districts to permit released-time religious instruction off-campus during school hours.

Mississippi HB1201 would authorize local school boards to permit released-time religious instruction for pupils. Students who wish to participate in such instruction would be excused from school for at least one hour, one day each week to attend their respective places of worship or some other off-campus place. The instruction would be in accordance with the religious faith or preference of the pupils. The bill prohibits the school district from providing or facilitating released-time religious instruction on school premises.
