In Text

Mississippi HB1026 mandates a recount of votes in certain elections if the difference in votes is 250 or less.

Mississippi HB1026 requires the Secretary of State, or the circuit or municipal clerk, to conduct a recount of all votes if the difference in votes for a candidate or ballot question is 250 or less. The recount must use a different method than the original count and be completed within 72 hours. If the original count used optical mark reading equipment, the recount must be a manual hand count. No candidate is charged for the recount cost. The Secretary of State can make rules for the recount process, including allowing candidates or their representatives to witness the recount.
