This bill increases penalties for unlawful possession of firearms in Minnesota. It raises the maximum prison sentence for possessing a firearm or ammunition from 15 to 20 years and increases the maximum fine from $30,000 to $50,000. It also increases the maximum prison sentence for transferring a firearm to someone ineligible to possess one from two to four years and raises the maximum fine from $10,000 to $20,000. The changes apply to offenses committed on or after August 1, 2026.
