Minnesota bill SF464 amends the prohibition on American Indian mascots in public schools, effective September 1, 2026. It prohibits public schools from using names, symbols, or images depicting or referring to American Indian tribes, individuals, customs, or traditions as mascots, nicknames, logos, letterheads, or team names. This prohibition does not apply to schools within the reservation of a federally recognized Tribal Nation in Minnesota. Schools must report their progress in removing such mascots to the Legislative Reference Library.
