Establishes enhanced penalties for theft from a vulnerable adult in Minnesota.

This bill amends Minnesota Statutes to establish enhanced penalties for theft from a vulnerable adult. If a violation creates a foreseeable risk of bodily harm to another, the penalties are increased. Specifically, if the penalty is a misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor, the person is guilty of a felony and may be sentenced to imprisonment for up to three years or fined up to $5,000, or both. If the penalty is a felony, the statutory maximum sentence is 50 percent longer than for the underlying crime. The bill applies to crimes committed on or after August 1, 2026.
