Modifies the types of vehicles subject to an automobile insurer surcharge in Minnesota.
This bill amends Minnesota law to modify the types of vehicles subject to a surcharge for automobile insurers. The surcharge, set at 50 cents per vehicle for every six months of coverage, applies to policies covering passenger automobiles, pickup trucks, and vans. Insurers must remit the surcharge revenue to the commissioner of revenue for the automobile theft prevention program. The surcharge does not apply to motorcycles, fleets, recreational vehicles, or any vehicle with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 10,000 pounds.
