Authorizes chiefs of police and sheriffs to access certain expunged records to assess firearm eligibility.

This bill allows chiefs of police and sheriffs to open and use expunged records to determine eligibility for firearm purchase, receipt, or carry. Records expunged before January 1, 2015, cannot be opened or exchanged. Records expunged on or after that date can be accessed by criminal justice agencies for specific investigations. If an expunged record is used to deny a permit, the chief of police or sheriff must notify the person and provide a copy of the record. The bill amends Minnesota Statutes to reflect these changes.
