Amends the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission membership and appointing authority.
This bill modifies the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission's membership and appointing authority. It establishes the commission with 11 voting and nonvoting members. The governor appoints members, including a victim of a felony, a former felony convict, a county attorney, a probation officer, and a treatment services provider. The chief justice, a court of appeals judge, a district court judge, a public defender, and a commissioner of corrections also serve on the commission. The governor designates a chair from the voting members. Effective the day following final enactment.
