The bill establishes a regional food bank grant program in Minnesota to increase food availability for needy families. The commissioner of children, youth, and families must distribute grants to regional food banks and Minnesota Tribal governments based on the number of persons in households below the federal poverty level and the number of unemployed persons in their service areas. Grant money must be used to purchase, transport, and coordinate the distribution of food and personal hygiene products to approved sites.
