Minnesota SF2819 establishes requirements for green burials, including plot locations and handling of bodies.
Minnesota SF2819 amends state statutes to establish requirements for green burials. Green burial plots must be set back 50 feet from property lines, maintain at least one meter above the ordinary high-water level, and avoid standing water and groundwater protection zones. Plots must also be a certain distance from water sources and drainage systems. Burial plots must be between three and a half to four feet deep, with one meter of cover. The bill also mandates that bodies awaiting green burial be refrigerated or packed in dry ice for no more than six or four days, respectively.
