Minnesota SF2359 mandates advanced Tribal review of proposed mining projects.
Minnesota SF2359 requires the commissioner of natural resources to involve affected Tribes in the review of proposed mining projects. If a Tribe's reservation land is within or adjacent to the county where a mining project is proposed, the commissioner must inform the Tribe, share the project application, and request a review. The commissioner cannot start reviewing the mining permit application until the affected Tribes complete their review and comply with archaeological and cultural preservation requirements.
