Minnesota SF1420 authorizes Chippewa Bands to establish open seasons for big game hunting in accordance with the 1854 treaty and appropriates funds.
Minnesota SF1420 amends the state statutes to allow certain Chippewa Bands to establish open seasons for big game hunting independently of the state if the commissioner of natural resources does not do so. This bill also appropriates $3,000,000 for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 from the general fund to the commissioner of natural resources for proportional payments to the Chippewa Bands. The commissioner must work with the signatory tribes to update and amend the affected agreement.
