Minnesota HF740 exempts nonprofit animal shelters from sales and use tax on certain activities.
Minnesota HF740 amends state tax law to exempt nonprofit animal shelters from sales and use tax on the sale or adoption of unwanted animals and associated supplies and equipment. It also exempts sales made by animal shelters for fundraising purposes, including the sale of prepared food, candy, and soft drinks. However, the exemption does not apply to certain construction materials and fundraising events exceeding 24 days per year or conducted on leased premises for more than five days but less than 30 days. The changes take effect for sales and purchases made after June 30, 2025.
