Allows tenants to terminate leases if they lose income, with proper notice and documentation.
Minnesota HF4887 permits tenants to terminate a lease if they experience a loss or reduction in income. The tenant or their authorized representative must provide written notice to the landlord at least 14 days before the proposed termination date and deliver a qualifying document. This document can be employer documentation of job loss or income reduction, documentation of income loss from other sources, or a tenant statement if other documentation is unavailable. The tenant remains liable for rent payments up to the termination date.
