Hennepin County authorized to impose a local sales tax to fund health care facility improvements.
The bill allows Hennepin County to impose a local sales tax of up to one percent. The tax revenue must be used for development, construction, improvement, and equipping of eligible health care facilities, construction or renovation of public infrastructure, accumulation of reserves for capital improvements, and reimbursement of uncompensated care. The county can issue bonds to finance these purposes and adjust the tax rate to ensure sufficient revenue. The tax is in addition to any other local sales and use taxes.
