Minnesota HF4317 provides access to surplus badges for certain peace officers. A chief law enforcement officer may provide at no cost a surplus badge used by a peace officer to the person to whom the badge had been issued when initially hired or during employment, whether the person is currently employed or retired. The bill also allows the spouse or child of a deceased peace officer to access a surplus badge. A surplus badge is defined as one bearing any seal before May 11, 2026, or the badge of a retired person bearing any seal.
