Alexandria authorized to impose local sales tax for community center expansion.
The bill authorizes the city of Alexandria to impose a local sales tax, if approved by voters, to fund the expansion and renovation of the PrimeWest Health Runestone Community Center. The tax can be up to one-quarter of one percent and is in addition to any other local sales tax. The tax revenue will cover collection and administration costs and up to $30 million for the project, plus associated bonding costs. The city can issue bonds to finance the project, and the tax may expire after 20 years or when sufficient funds are collected.
