Waseca County authorized to impose a local sales tax to fund a new judicial center.
The bill authorizes Waseca County to impose a local sales tax of up to three-eighths of one percent, if approved by voters. The tax revenue will be used to cover the costs of collecting and administering the tax and to finance up to $45 million, plus associated bonding costs, for the construction of a new judicial center. The tax may be issued as bonds under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 475. The tax expires 30 years after imposition or when the county determines the revenue is sufficient to cover project costs and bond issuance costs.
