The bill creates the Minnesota Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to enforce consumer financial laws and protect consumers in the financial marketplace. The bureau will be under the commissioner's administrative control, who is appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate. The commissioner will have the general powers provided in section 5. The bureau will focus on identifying and eliminating unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices; enforcing laws that outlaw discrimination in consumer finance; and accepting and investigating consumer complaints.
