The bill establishes the Companion Animal Board to promote the welfare of cats, dogs, and other pets, and support the human-animal bond. The Board will enforce state laws regulating companion animals, administer a grant program for companion animal care, and provide expertise and assistance to other state agencies and local governments. The Board will also report annually on grants made and their outcomes. The Board will consist of 13 members appointed by the governor, including representatives from veterinary medicine, animal shelters, animal rescues, and the public.
