The bill establishes the Minnesota SNAP step up for seniors program to provide additional benefits to eligible seniors who receive federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The program will supplement the minimum monthly benefit amount for eligible seniors, defined as individuals age 55 or older, who receive a federally funded SNAP benefit of less than $50. The supplemental benefit amount will be distributed through the SNAP electronic benefit transfer system and will not be counted as income for any program that does not count SNAP benefits as income.
