Michigan SB1063 amends the existing law to mandate that cemetery owners with crematories must have refrigeration units inside their crematories for storing bodies of deceased individuals if cremation does not occur within 24 hours of arrival. If a body is not cremated or embalmed within 24 hours, it must be transported to the cemetery owner's funeral establishment and stored in a refrigeration unit at an air temperature not exceeding 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This requirement does not apply if the cemetery owner has a contract with a nearby facility that has a suitable refrigeration unit.
