Chamber Passed·6/25/26

Michigan SB1042 prohibits excessive pricing of goods and services during a declared state of emergency.

Michigan SB1042, known as the "commodities and emergency services and supplies pricing protection act," prohibits businesses from excessively increasing prices for building materials, consumer food items, goods, services, emergency supplies, or medical supplies during or after a declared state of emergency. The act defines "excessively increased price" as a price demonstrating an unjustified disparity of more than 20% unless the seller can prove the increase is due to market conditions. The attorney general can bring actions for injunctive relief, civil penalties, and actual damages.
