Michigan SB0888 amends school disciplinary proceedings to consider adverse childhood experiences and trauma before suspending or expelling students.

Michigan SB0888 amends the Michigan Compiled Laws to modify school disciplinary proceedings. It requires school boards to consider factors such as a student's age, disciplinary history, disability status, and whether the student has experienced adverse childhood experiences or trauma before suspending or expelling them. For suspensions over 10 days or expulsions, there is a rebuttable presumption that the disciplinary action is not justified unless community factors are considered.
