Michigan SB0832 amends the 1968 Michigan Compiled Laws by adding a new section that prohibits a legislator from chairing a legislative committee if doing so would create a conflict of interest with an immediate family member who is the head of a principal department. Immediate family members include parents, siblings, children, spouses, and sister-in-law or brother-in-law. The term "legislator" refers to members of the state house of representatives or state senate.
