Michigan SB0687 allows local governments to hold agricultural conservation easements and grants them a right of enforcement.

Michigan SB0687 amends the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to allow local units of government to hold agricultural conservation easements. These easements can be held jointly with the state or solely by the local unit if approved by the board. The state can delegate enforcement authority to local governments and may intervene if the primary easement holder fails to enforce the terms. The bill also allows for the transfer of easements to property owners if both the state and local unit agree. The act will only take effect if several other bills are also enacted.
