Michigan SB0545 amends the insurance code to require insurers to provide written notices and explanations for material changes in auto and homeowners insurance policies. A material change includes nonrenewal, cancellation, premium increases over 10%, or reductions in coverage. Insurers must explain the principal factors for these changes and provide a point of contact for discussion. The law applies to policies issued, delivered, amended, or renewed after January 1, 2026. Insurers can deliver notices and explanations via first-class mail or electronic means.
