Michigan SB0537 mandates the Department of Corrections to gather pre-incarceration addresses and demographic data of incarcerated individuals. Following a federal decennial census, the department must provide this information to the independent citizens redistricting commission. The commission may use this data when proposing a redistricting plan. The Department of State is required to request similar information from the U.S. Department of Justice regarding individuals incarcerated in federal facilities or under federal supervision.
