Michigan SB0493 allocates funds for grants to maintain or establish small classes in grades K to 3 in eligible districts.

Michigan SB0493 amends the school aid fund to allocate up to $65,000,000 for grants to eligible districts for pilot programs to maintain or establish small classes in grades K to 3. Eligible districts must operate grades K to 12, be in an opportunity index band of 4 or higher, and use at least 30% of their section 31a funds for this purpose. The average class size must not exceed 17 pupils, with no more than 19 in any class. Grants must be awarded to at least four specified districts and cannot exceed 25% of the total allocation to any single district.
