Introduced Text

Amends campaign finance law to clarify the authority of the attorney general's office in resolving violations involving the secretary of state.

The bill amends Michigan's campaign finance law to specify the authority of the attorney general's office in resolving violations involving the secretary of state. It allows the secretary of state to refer matters to the attorney general for enforcement of criminal penalties if the violation involves the secretary of state or their immediate family. The attorney general can then enforce criminal penalties or commence a hearing for civil violations. The secretary of state can also investigate complaints, issue declaratory rulings, and post information on their website.
