Establishes a retention program offering bonuses to certain Michigan public employees to address critical shortages.
The bill creates the "state employee critical shortage retention program act," which provides bonuses to specific public employees to help address critical shortages. Eligible employees include conservation officers and certain classified civil service positions. Qualified employers, such as the departments of state police, corrections, health and human services, and natural resources, will pay bonuses of up to $10,000. Employees completing two years of service by September 30, 2026, will receive $5,000, and an additional $5,000 if they complete another two years by September 30, 2028.
