Introduced Text

Michigan SB0253 allows tenants in metered rental units to request water and sewer bills be sent to them.

Michigan SB0253 amends the landlord-tenant act to allow tenants in metered rental units to request that water and sewer bills be sent to both the landlord and the tenant. Landlords are prohibited from interfering with or retaliating against tenants who make such requests. This applies to leases entered into, renewed, or renegotiated after the bill's effective date. If there is a conflict with federal law regulating subsidized housing, federal law prevails.
