Michigan SB0138 amends the vehicle registration process to allow the Secretary of State to issue temporary registration permits for specialty plates. The bill also modifies the proof of insurance requirement, allowing the Secretary of State to accept a transmission of vehicle policy information from insurers as proof of insurance. This policy information is confidential and not subject to public disclosure. The temporary registration permit expires either when the applicant receives the registration plate or 60 days after issuance, whichever comes first.
