Michigan SB0058 amends the Michigan School Code to require the Michigan Department of Education, in consultation with the Department of Natural Resources, to develop a model firearm safety instruction program for students in grades 6 to 12 by June 1, 2025. This program, lasting at least 10 hours, must align with the safe firearm handling course provided by the Department of Natural Resources. Schools may offer this instruction as an optional extracurricular class or as part of an existing course, taught by a certified hunter education instructor.
