Introduced Text

Michigan SB0019 amends tenant rights to repair defective conditions in residential premises.

Michigan SB0019 amends the landlord-tenant law to establish tenants' rights to repair defective conditions in residential premises. If a condition is hazardous, mold-related, or deprives the tenant of use of appliances, the landlord must begin repairs within 48 to 72 hours. For other defects, repairs must start within 7 days. Tenants can withhold rent, make repairs themselves, or deduct repair costs from rent if the landlord fails to act. The bill also prohibits landlords from retaliating against tenants who exercise these rights.
