Michigan HJRV amends the state constitution to require voter approval for local government tax increases.

Michigan HJRV amends the state constitution to require local governments to obtain voter approval for tax increases. Before January 1, 2027, a majority of qualified electors must approve tax increases. After January 1, 2027, at least 30% of qualified electors must vote in favor, along with a majority, for tax increases. This change does not apply to taxes for bond payments or assessments authorized before the amendment's effective date.
