Michigan HJRS amends the state constitution to establish inherent rights to a clean environment and trustee responsibilities for natural resources.

Michigan HJRS amends the state constitution by adding section 29 to article I, establishing that every person has an inherent and inalienable right to a clean and healthy environment. This includes clean water, air, soils, balanced ecosystems, a stable climate, and the preservation of natural, cultural, recreational, and healthful qualities of the environment. The state, including all branches, agencies, and political subdivisions, is mandated to protect these rights equitably for all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomics, or geography.
