Introduced Text

Modifies Michigan's postconviction DNA testing procedures for felony convictions.

This bill amends Michigan's postconviction DNA testing procedures for felony convictions. It allows defendants convicted before January 8, 2001, who are serving a prison sentence, to petition for DNA testing of biological material identified during their investigation. If the results show the defendant is not the source of the biological material, the court must appoint counsel and hold a hearing to determine if a new trial is warranted.
