Michigan HB6082 mandates frost protection for accessory dwelling units during conversions of existing buildings.

Michigan HB6082 amends the 1972 Public Act 230 by adding a section requiring that any conversion of an existing building or structure into an accessory dwelling unit must comply with frost protection requirements. The exception allows for a waiver if the owner provides an attestation that the building was constructed at least 10 years prior to the application and a statement from a structural engineer confirming no significant frost heaving issues.
