Introduced Text

Language Assistance for Elections Act mandates language support for voters with limited English proficiency in Michigan.

The Language Assistance for Elections Act requires local governments in Michigan to provide language assistance for voters with limited English proficiency. This includes translating voting materials and offering interpreters. Local governments must provide such assistance if they have more than 5% of their voting-eligible population who speak a single shared language other than English and have limited English proficiency. The Secretary of State is responsible for providing language assistance and can reimburse local governments for related costs.
