Introduced Text

Michigan HB5960 revises procedures for village annexation, including notice requirements and referendum processes.

Michigan HB5960 amends the procedures for annexing territory by a village. It requires the state boundary commission to send a certified copy of its order to affected local governments and the secretary of state. If more than 100 persons resided in the area approved for annexation, a referendum petition must be filed within 30 days. The commission must hold a public hearing and provide notice to property owners within 300 feet of the proposed annexation area. If a referendum petition is filed and deemed valid, a referendum must be held.
