Introduced Text

Allows electric utilities to use existing rights-of-way for electronic transmission infrastructure.

This bill amends Michigan's public utilities law to allow electric utilities to use existing rights-of-way for electronic transmission infrastructure. It requires entities holding a license or franchise to obtain a permit for relocating facilities, with waived permit fees. The bill also mandates that utilities obtain consent from local governing bodies before constructing lines and poles. The state transportation department must coordinate with utilities to review highway corridors for transmission line placement and consult on constructability reports.
