Introduced Text

Michigan HB5830 modifies the law on making terrorist threats or false reports of terrorism.

Michigan HB5830 amends the Michigan Penal Code to redefine making a terrorist threat or a false report of terrorism. It specifies that a person is guilty if they knowingly threaten to commit an act of terrorism and communicate the threat, or knowingly make a false report of an act of terrorism. The bill also clarifies that it is not a defense that the defendant did not have the intent or capability to commit the act. Violations are punishable by imprisonment for 5 to 20 years, a fine of up to $20,000, or both.
