Michigan HB5692 requires drain commissioners to provide landowners with preliminary cost estimates for proposed drains.

Michigan HB5692 amends sections 73 and 125 of the 1956 Public Acts to require drain commissioners to secure a professional engineer's plans, specifications, and cost estimate for proposed drains. The drain commissioner must send a letter containing the cost estimate to each freeholder in the drainage district within 7 days of receiving the engineer's estimate. Freeholders have 21 days to withdraw their support of the proposed drain by notifying the drain commissioner in writing.
